James Corden tearful as he hosts emotional final episode of Late Late Show

     

 

English T host James Corden got quite emotional as he hosted his final ever episode of The Late Late Show on Thursday night. 
 

With appearances from Harry Styles, Tom Cruise, Will Ferrell on his final ever show, fans watched on as Corden did the last-ever Carpool Karaoke with his best pal Adele.


Corden ended his eight-year US TV stint with an emotional monologue addressing “divisions” in America. Looking back at the past decade, the 44-year-old said that he had seen how the country had changed, and noticed there had been a dark shadow looming large. He urged his viewers to reconsider the path the country was on.

 

He said; 


“I’ve struggled to find the words to sum up what this past eight years have meant to me. We started with Obama then Trump then a global pandemic. I’ve watched America change a lot over these past few years, I’ve watched divisions grow, I felt a sense of negativity.

“I guess all I really want to stay is, I implore you to remember what America signifies to the rest of the world. My entire life, it’s always been a place of optimism and joy. Sure, it has flaws. Show me a country that doesn’t… every single one of us is a work of progress.

“Just because someone disagrees with you, it doesn’t make them bad or evil. There are so many people who are trying to stoke those differences. We have to try to the best we can to look for the light, look for the joy. It’s out there. That’s all this show has ever been about.

"Thank you for letting me do this. Thank you for letting into your home every night.”

 

During the segment, Corden's sidekick and the show's co-head writer, Ian Karmel, told him, “This is like Michael Jordan retiring at the height of his powers.”

 

Corden was then surprised with a special message from Biden, he said, "James, congratulations. 1200 shows in eight years. After the day you spent working for me at The White House, I'm surprised you lasted eight years at any job. To you, Reggie and the entire team, thank you for all the joy you brought to homes across America and special thanks for never asking me to sing in the car…We'll miss you pal. I can't wait to see what you do next."
 

 

Corden finished the night by performing an emotional song on the piano summarising his time hosting the series. He first took over The Late Late Show from Craig Ferguson in 2015 and moved his family to Los Angeles to host the CBS staple. The Englishman is now moving back to the UK and has shown appreciation to the country where his home has been for nearly a decade.
